When you are introducing AAC to anyone, remember communication is multimodal. If the client verbalizes “purple”, you as the therapist will recast verbally or on the SGD, “purple car”. We do not ask the client to then access “purple” on the SGD. This is redundancy and not how natural language interactions move forward. AAC is about language learning–not about performance.
