I created this site to support Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) graduate students who are the future of our profession. I will add resources, research, tool, strategies, tips, and any information that I feel will be useful in their developing SLP toolbox. The content is informational, not recommendations. Use everything to build your differential diagnosis skill set. Embrace your power and “Benevolence” should be an action word.

Keep the Writing Process in the Therapy Plan

It is easy to get hyper focused on the deficit aspect of therapy. When this happens, it can be too easy to forget that our cognitive, sensory, linguistic, and motor systems are constantly interacting. No matter what type of therapy you are doing, try to remember to foster literacy development or access. It does not have to be intense. Your literacy connections could be highlighting a particular letter or sound across the session and how that sound connects to words, and those words belong in sentences, and sentences tell us so much. I often say to my clients, “use your words, please.” I also need to remind myself to let those words be part of a bigger story I can share with my client.
